Huxtaburger

Have you heard the news? Huxtaburger is headed to the city and set to open a new store on Fulham Place between 333 and 357 Collins Street at the start of next year.  That’s going to be pretty handy when a lunch time burger craving hits and the announcement made me think it was probably time to write up Huxtaburger on here.

Looking through the window of Huxtaburger

I had a bit of a classic Melbourne night last weekend – cycling down Smith Street for a burger and beer at Huxtaburger before heading on to the footy at the G.  If you beat the queues Huxtaburger is perfect for a quick meal – it’s nothing fancy (that’s across the road at Huxtable) and there’s only limited bench space to eat in or some tables on the pavement of Smith Street.  It’s all about the burgers here – which are named after The Cosby Family members.  There’s the Bill with the lot – pineapple, beetroot, bacon and egg ($10) or my favourite – the Denise ($9) a sweat inducing combination of beef, cheese, salad, fiery jalapenos and sriracha mayo. It’s just the right amount of kick to keep things interesting.  The thing about the burgers at Huxtaburger is that they’re made with top quality ingredients – the meat is outstanding, seriously beefy Moondarra wagyu and even the sweet brioche buns are somewhat addictive.

Sides of chips ($3) are crinkle cut which gives them a bit of a retro feel but they’re actually pretty standard chips (house made would have been better).  Since this is a grown up burger joint you can order beers and wines as well.  There’s a good selection of boutique beers and if you want stronger stuff there’s always Bill’s Bar next door.  Burgers for all their mythology are just burgers but what they dish up at Huxtaburger is pretty special.

  1. Yep – I like their burgers too and am way overdue for my next one!

  2. HURRAH!!! I went to Huxtaburger on my Birthday this year. We spent more time driving there and back and waiting than we did eating. It was so good though. So glad it’s coming to the city…. even though I don’t work there or live there, it’s easy for me to get to 😛

  3. I’m glad these guys are opening in the city as it’s great for crazy tourists like me who run from one eat spot to the other all day trying to squish everything into one day. I like that they’re using good, grass-fed beef.

  4. Leaf – Sounds like it’s time for a visit to Smith Street!

Shellie – I love that you went there for your birthday and drove across town to get there. I managed to avoid the queues pretty much completely by getting there fairly early.

Miss Piggy – I agree – good to see them using top quality ingredients.

  5. hmmm.. can’t decide between huxtaburger or rockwell and sons!!! Both look amazing!
