Getting wowed at the W: Gourmet Chick in Singapore

Sometimes the last day of a holiday can be a bit of a drag. I often start remembering the big pile of things to do that will have mounted up back at work and that holiday feeling all too quickly evaporates even before you’ve hopped on the plane home.

The perfect fix to my end of holiday blues was an invite to stay at The W Hotel on Sentosa Island for the last night Meat-and-Three-Veg and I had in Singapore. Checking in there is some serious Singapore bling in the W lobby. Soaring columns, gold sculptures, artwork by Andy Warhol and a DJ deck overlooking the bar. This is not your cookie cutter hotel.

The rooms are really something else as well. We stayed in a “fabulous” room (their name not mine) but it really was fabulous. There was the softest most comfortable white cloud of a bed I think I have ever slept in, a big balcony overlooking the bay and a gorgeous bath tub with sliding doors that opened into the bedroom.

Inside our room at the W. Great Bliss toiletries, an amazing bathtub and loved the chocolates and quality vodka in the mini bar.

Expect more art and sculpture as well along with some great touches like chargers for every device you thought possible, free wifi, Bliss products in the bathroom and a choice of mood lighting including “escape”, “runway” and “flirt”. I particularly appreciated a mini bar which includes Veuve champagne.

There was, of course, lots of eating involved as well. The breakfast at the W is not your standard hotel buffet. While you can eat your fill many of the dishes are cooked to order or only in small batches. I loved the BLT filled croissants, omelette with a lot and amazing pastries – particularly the crisp and buttery pain au chocolate.

We spent our last day in Singapore luxuriating by the huge pool – hello swim up bar and heaps of fun inflatable pool toys. Not a bad way to finish off a holiday and it certainly put my post holiday blues on the backburner for a while at least.  I’d highly recommend the W if you are in Singapore. The only downside is the location on Sentosa Island which means you have to cab it to get into the city.  The upside is cabs are really cheap in Singapore. So it’s a win win.
