If you need me over this Summer you’ll find me at the Swing Bridge Cafe in Lorne. The Swing Bridge Cafe has always been in a prime location in Lorne – it sits right on the edge where the river meets the Ocean with beautiful views over the sand and surf. But the food and coffee really hasn’t been up to much… until now.
A new owner, chef Jorge Guerro, has taken over the Swing Bridge Cafe and renovated it to add more seating – mainly outdoors. But most importantly he has created a whole new menu. Every Friday lunch time there’s a special grill cooked over hot coals. But every day of the week there is a little bit of South American influence in all the food served.
The “Senor Pancho” ($18.50) packs a flavour punch with fried eggs served on tortillas and topped with a salsa of avocado and tomato. I loved the addition of seriously spicy sausage and the liberal use of coriander.
If you want something more simple there’s the Wakie Wakie roll ($14) , a bacon and egg roll topped with some aged cheddar. Check out the bacon in the photo – you can see it is the good stuff. All the produce used here is organic and free range.
Did I mention that the coffee is seriously good? It’s St Ali beans and the barista knows what they are doing. I think you can see why I’ll be bunkering down here over Summer.
