What’s not to love about good food for a good cause?  Every day of the year Sacred Heart Misson in Saint Kilda serves around 400 free meals to the homeless and disadvantaged.  The meals are made 90% from donated food and the kitchen is staffed mainly by volunteers but there is still costs Sacred Heart Mission $4 per person to prepare and serve the meals.  This is where Dine With Heart comes in.  I was invited to the launch of the program which is involving a range of top chefs from the local area.

The main fundraiser is an amazing dinner being held for 200 people on the stage of the iconic Palais Theatre in St Kilda.  The dinner will be prepared by chefs including Ian Curley from the European, Chris Watson from Luxembourg, Jesse Gerner from Bomba and dessert queen Philippa Sibley.

The sneak peek of the meal I got shows the food is going to be pretty special  I particularly loved the oxtail croquettes created by Bomba’s Jesse Gerner and mini BLT toasties on brioche from Bay Leaf catering.

If you can’t get tickets you can support Sacred Heart Mission by eating at restaurants participating in Dine With Heart all through May.  Restaurants signed up so far include Beachbomber, Bella Cosi, Donovans, L’Altro Mondo, Luxembourg, Mr Wolf, Grill 3182, Phamish, St Hotel, Sorsi e Morsi, I Carusi II and Olive Garden. 

Gourmet Chick was a guest of Sacred Heart Mission at the preview for Dine with Heart.
