Like the rest of the world I’m a little Instagram obsessed. I find it a great source of inspiration for where to eat, travel lust and just what exactly I’m going to cook for dinner. What I find on Instagram and online is a huge influence in the kitchen rather than my cookbooks and magazines.
This is a list of some fabulous sources of food inspiration on Instagram. It’s not exhaustive at all as I just couldn’t pick favourites when there are so many great Instagrammers out here. I’ve limited myself to Melbourne and everyone listed here posts original content rather than just regramming content from others. Most importantly each of these food obsessed Instagrammers is quite different but equally worth a follow. You can find me on there @carawaters.
@ItalyOnMyMind Italophiles can get their fix through Paola’s insta feed. She includes shots of her Italian home cooking, trips to Italy and Melbourne’s best Italian restaurants and events. She also shares my love for an Aperol spritz.
@MelHotOrNot Uber blogger Joyce divides Melbourne into what’s hot or not and hey, this is Melbourne, so most of her Instagram shots feature food. She’s got a finger on the pulse of all the events happening, new places opening and is particularly strong on Melbourne’s often overlooked West. You can rely on Joyce for honest reviews rather than just saying everything is wonderful.
@Little_Miss_Muesli Little Miss Muesli shows just how niche Instagram can be – she posts about muesli in Melbourne. Great for morning inspiration or if you want to try and steer yourself away from always ordering the eggs and bacon at cafes. Bonus points for the way Little Miss Muesli gives really detailed reviews in her Insta instead of just posting the menu description.
@IronChefShellie Shellie made the leap last year to become a full time stylist and food photographer. One look at her Insta feed and you’ll instantly realise why – this is food porn at its purest. Also check out some great travel shots including Shellie’s recent trip to Iceland.
@TheCityLane Paul is often one of the first to review new places which have just opened and sometimes I’m exhausted just looking at his Insta feed! Following him keeps you up to date on Melbourne’s restaurant and cafe comings and goings and his photos are top notch.
@InkAndCleaver I love Trish’s moody and somewhat dark food photography on Instagram which is so different from what everyone else is snapping. Lots of home cooking on here as well as raw ingredients shot in a beautiful and unusual way.
@SarahCooksBlog Follow Sarah if you love pictures of eating out plus lots of home cooking particularly Asian and German cuisine. Sarah keeps things real as well using Instagram as almost of a diary of what she’s up to rather than just perfectly curated shots – you’ll find toast with peanut butter and bananas on here.
@IEatBlog Thanh is one of Melbourne’s most popular Instagrammers and one look at his feed and you’ll see why. Every photo is so beautifully taken and Thanh has an insatiable appetite for eating out. Another blogger/Instagrammer who is so good they have turned professional.
@LisaEatsWorld Lisa is the cafe and coffee queen and her feed will give you lots of great brunch inspiration. She also will occasionally post negative comments on Instagram – not everything is glowing here so bonus points for honesty!
Of course this list is just the tip of the iceberg. I follow a lot more people than nine and love my daily dose of Insta inspiration. Any suggestions for great Melbourne foodies I should add in to my Instagram feed? Leave a comment.
