Hawthorn eats at Ate One Ate

Everything’s a little bit bigger in Hawthorn.  The houses, the schools and even the restaurants as exemplified in new opening Ate One Ate.  This place is huge. It occupies three shop fronts and seats 180 people.

I was invited to the opening so my review is a limited as I haven’t experienced the restaurant at full service.  But I could check out the place which has a sophisticated feel with caramel leather bucket chairs looking through big glass windows for people watching on Glenferrie road or for a bit of food theatre to the semi open kitchen lined with timber.

The canapès gave an indication of the broad European influenced menu that head chef Marc Brown is creating. Salty sardines packed a punch and delicate scallops were served just burnished to a slight backpacker tan.

Fillet steak cooked to a tender shade of pink impressed but my favourite dish was the cheesy arancini balls. I really hope these are on the permanent menu.

Ate One Ate has wines on tap (something that’s popping up at more and more venues) and I can also recommend the Aperol spritzs for a bit of festive season celebration.  The sneak peek I got makes me keen to go back  and check it out further.

  1. Goodness you are certainly up-to-date with your blogging young lady. But just to put you right there: there are SOME smaller houses in Hawthorn such as the one I am sitting in now.
But will certainly check out this place – not sure exactly where it is but it must be in the old Jellis Craig building and that is big. Hmmm.

    1. Let me know what you think Cheryl.
