Gourmet Giveaway – Free tickets to Taste of Melbourne 2014

Taste of Melbourne is back this year at Albert Park Lake for 2014. It’s on from Thursday 13 November to Sunday 16 November. Participating restaurants this year include Brooks, Lucy Liu, Mamasita, Huxtaburger, Burch & Purchese and Movida. The lovely people at Taste of Melbourne have given me two double passes for Gourmet Chick readers. Each double pass is worth $50.

For a taste of what you are in for at Taste check out some of the dishes I got served at a preview evening this week (or see my round up of last year’s festival).  From Brooks Restaurant & Bar look out for the  Sher Wagyu rib – slow cooked until it’s sticky and served with charcoal vegetables, onions and vinegar.  The must try dish though from Brooks is its roasted cauliflower icecream with a caramel sauce. I know it sounds crazy but the icecream has a really delicious nutty flavour that works brilliantly with the caramel.

From newcomer to the Taste of Melbourne, Lucy Liu, you can expect more Wagyu but this time it’s Grade 7 Wagyu (in Australia the grading goes up to 9) with a charred edge and meltingly tender beef.  Mamasita will be serving its famous “street style” corn to ensure theres’s not a riot (people, and by people I mean me, are fanatical about Mamasita’s corn).  The corn is char grilled giving it a smoky sweetness and then served with a smear of chipotle mayo, slowly melting queso and a squeeze of lime to add a bit of tang. It’s everything you could ever wish for on the end of one handy stick.  Mamasita will also be serving up some new dishes including the intriguing and delicious  zucchini braised molotes which are like a cross betweeen a croquette and an empanada.

  1. My favourite restaurant in Melbourne would have to be Morris Jones in Windsor, the flavours have always been spot on for me and the desserts are divine!

  2. Oh man, I would love to win tickets to this! With 3 kids 6 and under I wouldn’t dare buy tickets as it isn’t often possible to get babysitting but if we won them then it would be the perfect excuse to go!

    As for a favourite melbourne restaurant – that is so hard! I LOVE so many different ones from Cutler & co to Moroccan Soup Bar to Donavons to Bistro D’orsay to my favourite cheap and cheerful Japanese Samurai in Hawthorn. So many awesome restaurants in Melbourne!

  9. The Rocks in Mornington. Amazing views, delicious meals, whether it’s breakfast, lunch or dinner, the Rocks is definitely a winner!

  12. It’s hard to go past Coda for amazing, rich Asian fusion food. In a city overcrowded with similar styles of food, Coda has always stood out for me. x
