Meeting Novak Djokovic with Jacob’s Creek

Last night I got to be a total fan girl thanks to Jacob’s Creek which hosted an Our Table event including special guest Novak Djokovic.

I’ve been telling people that I had dinner with Novak but of course it was more like me, Novak and about 200 other people.  Still I did get to listen to Novak chat to Masterchef winner Andy Allen about all things food and wine (did you know Novak is vegetarian?) and even scored a quick selfie with the tennis star himself. Totally shameless.

Novak is an ambassador for one of Australia’s best known wine companies Jacob’s Creek.  As a guest at the Our Table event at beautiful converted warehouse space 45 Downstairs we got to try some of Jacob’s Creek’s premium wines including a guided wine tasting to start the night.

Then we were able to experience how the wines paired with food starting off with the Jacob’s Creek Reserve Adelaide Hills Chardonnay 2015.

This was probably my favourite wine of the night given it was a pretty warm evening a chilled and complex chardonnay was a great match to some simple grilled prawns with a smoky char served on a dollop of peperonata, green tomato and chive salsa.

I loved that Jacob’s Creek served up kangaroo as a main alongside its Reserve Barossa Signature Shiraz 2014.  This is a meat we all should be eating more of and it was tender and just a little bit gamey with soft slivers of cabbage and roasted carrot and pancetta.

As we had learnt from our wine tasting earlier (and many years of personal combining!) chocolate is the perfect match for a glass of cabernet sauvignon so the evening finished with an indulgent and creamy hazelnut dacquoise with minted dark chocolate mousse and Jacob’s Creek Coonawarra Cabernet Sauvignon.

I’m looking forward to watching the tennis over the next two weeks with a glass or two of Jacob’s Creek while I cheer on my new best friend Novak.

  1. Thank you for a lovely overview. I’m an Estonian food blogger who’s leaving home later this evening to head over the this year’s Our Table event in Melbourne. Not sure if Djokovic is “on the menu”, but surely lots of good wine and food.

I’ll be spending four extra days in Melbourne at my leisure – looking forward to exploring the city and its culinary delights.

    1. Pille – lucky you – hope you have a fabulous night and enjoy Melbourne. Lots of great food! I loved my visit to Estonia a few years ago.
